Simon Bulteel - Cooden Tax Consulting - Event Sponsor

Simon Bulteel, Cooden Tax Consulting1. Why did you set up your business?
Because there was a gap in the market between accountants and their SME business clients to provide specialist practical knowledge of the application of Research and Development Tax Relief to a business's activities.

2. What gives you the most satisfaction as part of your job?
Hearing that a client has received a tax refund that will help them to grow their business further.

3. What has been your proudest moment since beginning the business?
Hiring my first employee back in 2016

4. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
A caricature artist wondering round a business show once did a drawing of me in a cape and called me Super Tax Man, I loved the image, but I would rather it was Super R&D Tax Man

5. What would you say is the trickiest aspect of being in your industry?
Convincing business owners that Research and Development Tax Credits aren’t one of these dodgy tax avoidance schemes and that it is actually conceived and developed by Government to support the innovators within SME businesses across the country.

6. What have you learned throughout your time with your company?
That you never stop learning and that I wear a lot of hats!

7. Favourite ice cream flavour?
Mint Choc Chip

8. What is the greatest piece of advice you can give businesses either starting up or successful already?
Make maximum use of tax reliefs, allowances and grants. You’ll be spending someone else’s money for a while longer if you can master this!

9. If you could own any supercar, what would it be and why?
A Volvo XC90’s a supercar. It can go anywhere!

10. Biggest weakness?
I find it very hard to say no, which is why I am the lead sponsor of NetXP!

I have to listen well!

Russell Stedman - 325 Productions - Cake Sponsor

Russell Stedman, 325 Productions1. Why did you set up your business?
I graduated from the University of Brighton with a degree in Media at the ripe old age of 32. After exploring careers in television and PR I was given an opportunity to make a video for an animal charity whilst volunteering for them. The video was well received and more work was offered to me as a result. I felt I had found my niche in creating online content, rather than film or television productions. My business has grown into what it is today because of that opportunity.

2. What gives you the most satisfaction as part of your job?
Seeing that the videos I create for my clients serve their purpose, by gaining great engagement and positive feedback from their target audience.

3. What has been your proudest moment since beginning the business?
Up until March 2017, I was still working part-time to support my income in and around 325 productions UK. From that point onwards I went full time self-employed and two years on I am happy to say that I have built a thriving business, which makes me very proud.

4. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
The ability to always find my keys wherever I have put them.

5. What would you say is the trickiest aspect of being in your industry?
Educating people on what it takes to create a great video. There are so many factors involved and it's tricky to get across just how much time, effort and skill go into making even a short video that has a real impact.

6. What have you learned throughout your time with your company?
To believe in myself, something I have always struggled to do.

7. Favourite ice cream flavour?
Vanilla. I am a man of simple tastes.

8. What is the greatest piece of advice you can give businesses either starting up or successful already?
Don't get complacent, ever, in any aspect of what you do.

9. If you could own any supercar, what would it be and why?
I am not into cars, so I wouldn't ever want a supercar. I like my Mondeo Estate, I can fit everything I need into it for any shoot. It's a ginormous car.

10. Biggest weakness?
Peanut butter, I can't resist it.

11. Best strength?
I always go over and above, anything less keeps me awake at night.
